According to the latest report from the Group of States Against Corruption (Greco), Cyprus has satisfactorily addressed nine out of the 16 recommendations for combating corruption. The findings are detailed in the second compliance report, which was published on Tuesday.

One of the unfulfilled points concerns the independence of prosecutors. The Office of the Attorney General of the Republic reported that a bill on this matter is currently under consideration by the parliament.

However, Greco noted that "the project could benefit from further elaboration to ensure that individual law enforcement/prosecutorial staff can perform their duties more autonomously, guided by the guarantees necessary under the rule of law."

The Group of States Against Corruption urged the authorities in Cyprus to "urgently address the planned reform of the Legal Service of the Republic."
