The United Kingdom is bolstering its military presence in Cyprus in preparation for mass evacuations from Lebanon. A contingent of 700 military personnel will be dispatched to the island to assist British citizens in leaving the conflict zone.

“Our government is taking all necessary measures to support British citizens in the event the situation worsens. Recent events have clearly demonstrated how unstable this situation is, so our message is unequivocal: British citizens must leave the country immediately,” stated Defense Minister John Healey.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer also warned that the escalation of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah “is pushing the region to the brink of disaster.”

It has been reported that two Royal Navy ships, along with aircraft and transport helicopters, are already stationed in Cyprus.
