Syrian Man Confesses to the Murder of Dimitris Andronikou in Cyprus

In Cyprus, a 42-year-old man has confessed to the premeditated murder of Dimitris Andronikou, also known as Dimitroui. The accused, a Syrian national, made his confession in the Nicosia criminal court.

A verdict in this high-profile case is scheduled to be delivered on October 15. The accused faces a potential life sentence for premeditated murder.

To recap, the assassination attempt on Dimitris Andronikou, known in criminal circles as Dimitroui, occurred during the day on April 23 on the road from Antupoli to Paleochori in the Lakatamia area. At the time of the attack, he was riding a motorcycle after visiting the central prison. The assailant, also on a motorcycle, shot the victim three times.

Andronikou sustained a neck injury and underwent extensive treatment in the hospital, where doctors fought to save his life. On May 16, 24 days after the attempt, he regained consciousness, and his health significantly improved. Unfortunately, he could not be saved and passed away on the evening of May 28.

Earlier reports indicated that police had arrested 10 suspects in connection with this case. Currently, five individuals remain in custody.
