In Limassol, a residential building was evacuated due to a car explosion

Another explosion occurred in Limassol: an explosive device detonated in a car. For safety reasons, the police evacuated residents from a multi-story building.

According to the police, a bomb in a car belonging to a 40-year-old man exploded in the Agios Ioannis area of Limassol around 5 a.m. on Tuesday, January 23.

The signal of the vehicle fire, parked in the residential building's parking lot, was reported to the fire department around 05:05. The explosion shattered windows in the nearby building. Firefighters who arrived at the scene evacuated the residents. Additionally, another car parked nearby was damaged as a result of the ensuing fire.

According to local media reports, the car was likely booby-trapped. Surveillance camera recordings will be used to identify the perpetrators. The owner of the car has been summoned to provide testimony.

It is noted that at 06:11 in the Agios Nikolaos area in Limassol, another car caught fire.

The arriving firefighters extinguished the burning car. An investigation will also be conducted into the second incident of ignition.
