Closed-circuit monitoring systems will be activated as part of a pilot project in troubled educational institutions in a few days, according to Ilias Markatsis, head of the Security and Health Department at the Ministry of Education.

Specifically, cameras will be placed in schools classified as high-risk according to criteria established by the ministry in collaboration with the police. After a certain period, the results will be evaluated, and based on the outcome, the measure may be extended.

The cameras will monitor entrances and the perimeter of the school block, operating outside of school hours. Warning signs indicating the presence of cameras will also be installed.

Earlier, Cypriot authorities approved a plan to install video surveillance cameras in schools, aiming to combat violence and misconduct.
