A 52-year-old woman, suspected of stealing jewels valued at 305,000 euros, has been remanded in custody for eight days by the Paphos District Court. The accused is refusing to cooperate with the investigation.

The woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, appeared in court on Monday, but the detention order was issued only on Tuesday morning.

According to reports, the accused is not cooperating with investigators and has failed to provide satisfactory explanations regarding the ownership of the gold jewelry found in her possession.

Police reports state that a substantial quantity of jewelry was discovered during searches of several locations in Paphos. Investigations are ongoing to establish whether the items recovered by the police were stolen.

The searches were conducted as part of an investigation into the robbery of a jewelry store in Paphos earlier this year, during which gold and jewelry worth 305,000 euros were stolen.

Subsequently, the 52-year-old woman, who owns the premises where the stolen items were discovered, was arrested.

Evidence linking the detainee to various offenses, including possession of stolen property, money laundering, aiding and abetting a criminal offense, and tampering with evidence, was uncovered during the investigation.

Following her arrest, searches were conducted with her consent at her home, vehicles, and commercial premises in Paphos. During these searches, the police found 18,820 euros in cash, as well as gold jewelry, diamonds, and other valuable items.

The woman was unable to provide satisfactory explanations regarding the discovered items, leading to her immediate arrest for unlawful possession of property.

Due to the significant number of complaints filed by victims, the police requested the suspect be held in custody.

Authorities intend to contact the victims of the defendant to ascertain whether any of the recovered jewelry belongs to them.
