Larnaca authorities have announced the commencement of a major renovation project for the city's roads and squares. The project is set to begin in mid-October and is estimated to cost €7 million.

The renovations are expected to take about a year, after which Larnaca will emerge as a modern city with a strong focus on environmental sustainability, offering enhanced safety and comfort for both residents and tourists.

The city mayor noted that the renovation will attract new investments and businesses to the city center, which is likely to increase tourist traffic.

The renovation plans include widening sidewalks, redesigning parking areas, improving rainwater drainage systems, modernizing underground cable networks, installing information points, and upgrading lighting and shading systems. The project will also feature granite and marble elements and enhance traffic regulation.

The city center will be made safer for pedestrians, cyclists, and individuals with disabilities. Green spaces will be prioritized, alongside the promotion of the area's architectural and historical heritage.

This project is part of the "Thalia" social cohesion program for 2021–2027, with the EU contributing approximately €6,872,200 towards the total cost.
