Five communities in the Limassol district have united to establish a wildfire detection center.

The collaboration, announced by the communities of Pakhna, Apesia, Foini, Eptagonia, and Vouni, aims to leverage advanced technologies, including scanning cameras and artificial intelligence, to provide real-time alerts and critical firefighting information.

According to Andreas Aristotelis Savva, President of Pakhna, the center, located in Pakhna, is nearing completion.

The project, with a budget of €66,000, has applied for funding through the European Agricultural Rural Development Program.

The monitoring system will cover a large area, including the Paphos mountains, Paphos airport, and Limassol port. It is designed to quickly detect fire outbreaks and send alerts to the Fire Service Coordination Center and the Department of Forestry.

The wildfire detection center is expected to be operational within the year, representing a significant step forward in enhancing the region's firefighting capabilities.
