The Cyprus Fire Service will enhance its use of drones and strengthen cooperation with the police following recent wildfires in the mountainous regions of Limassol.

Emergency services have expressed serious concern over the recent large-scale wildfires. In addition to existing measures, the Fire Service is coordinating with the police to increase patrols.

The drone unit will provide round-the-clock surveillance in areas identified as high-risk for wildfires. Over the past weekend, fires were reported near the communities of Pachna, Anogyra, and Avdimou, as well as in other parts of Cyprus.

The Fire Service has urged the public to help in fire prevention by promptly reporting any suspicious human activity to emergency services at 112 or by contacting local police stations or fire departments.

Additionally, the government has recently introduced stricter penalties for arson.
