Attempt to smuggle €105,000 worth of watches and accessories without declaration results in hefty fine
Cyprus customs authorities detected an attempt to bring undeclared luxury items worth over €105,000 into the country.
The man arrived on the island carrying:
- premium brand expensive watches,
- luxury accessories,
- high-value clothing items.
The passenger did not declare the valuables at the border, although he was required to do so. After inspection, customs officials imposed a large administrative fine and calculated and collected the due taxes and duties — nearly €20,000.
The customs service emphasized that such violations are considered serious, as they harm state revenue and breach fair trade regulations. The agency urged passengers to carefully comply with rules for declaring all goods exceeding the set limits.
