Police Warn of New Video Call Scam Scheme
Cyprus Police have once again warned citizens about scammers posing as police officers attempting to obtain personal data and access to bank accounts.
According to law enforcement, perpetrators contact individuals via video calls on messaging apps. To appear convincing, they use the police logo as their profile picture and introduce themselves as law enforcement officers.
During the conversation, scammers ask citizens to provide personal details, bank account information, and credit card data.
The police emphasize that they never contact citizens in this manner and do not request such information via video calls.
Citizens are urged to:
- Not disclose personal data,
- Not share bank details or passwords,
- Ignore such calls.
If someone has already provided their banking details to suspicious individuals, they are advised to contact their bank immediately to prevent potential theft of funds.
