The Republic of Cyprus Police has initiated a two-month campaign against organized crime. This information was confirmed by police representative Christos Andreou.

According to local media reports, the police leadership has distributed a 16-page action plan aimed at combating serious organized crime to all department heads, services, and police divisions.

As part of the measures, over the next 60 days, the police will increase nighttime patrols. Around 200 officers will patrol the streets late at night and in the early hours of the morning. Coordinated operations and systematic checks of vehicles and premises for suspicious individuals will also be conducted during raids.

The plan to combat organized crime activities started last Friday and will continue until May 22nd.

  • Citizens need to be informed that during this time, they will observe an increased number of police patrols, especially at night, - said Christos Andreou to the state broadcaster CyBC.

He also urged the public to remain vigilant and report anything suspicious to the nearest police station.

Additionally, the police representative added that law enforcement authorities are investigating how confidential information about the intensified measures against organized crime leaked to the media and became public knowledge.
