In anticipation of the new school year, Cyprus has reduced fares for school and student bus services.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Transport, the decision follows a directive from President Nikos Christodoulides’ office and is part of the government’s broader social policy aimed at supporting students and families.

The fare reductions were introduced just days before classes are set to begin.

For the 2024-2025 academic year, which will run until August 31, 2025, the monthly bus fare for students has been reduced to €5, while the annual pass will cost €30.

Students who wish to purchase an annual pass are required to obtain a personal Motion card.

In light of these changes, the ministry has decided to discontinue quarterly and semi-annual bus passes for the upcoming school year. However, single-ride tickets will remain available.

As a reminder, the first day of school for middle and high school students is tomorrow, September 6, while elementary schools will begin classes on Monday, September 9.
