Pensioner stuck in Cyprus without payments and facing court action

An 84-year-old UK resident has found herself in a difficult situation in Cyprus — she has been left without pension payments and has simultaneously received a court summons.

The woman flew to the island for a two-week holiday, but due to a serious illness, doctors forbade her from returning home. Later, her pension payments were stopped — according to British authorities, she was mistakenly recorded as deceased.

Since November, the pensioner has not received any money and is effectively left without means of subsistence. Meanwhile, local authorities in the UK are demanding she pay a council tax of £875 and have referred the case to court.

The woman maintains that she is not liable for the tax due to her age and health condition.

Despite appeals to government agencies, an MP, and the consulate, the situation remains unresolved. The pensioner remains in Cyprus, staying with acquaintances, and has no funds to return home.
