Paphos has been named the most livable small town in the world, according to data from the Compare the Market AU report.

The report assessed seven factors: the number of restaurants and entertainment venues, the unemployment rate, the number of rainy days per year, the health index, the level of safety, and the overall cost of goods.

Paphos topped the list with a score of 5.495 out of 7. Also making it into the top three best small towns to live in were Arrecife in Spain and Trapani in Italy. Two Greek cities also made the list: Ioannina and Xanthi, ranking 22nd and 44th respectively.

European cities dominate the ranking. The only non-European city on the list was Grande Prairie in Canada, which made it into the top ten with a score of 4.295.

"Living in small towns has many advantages, such as a slower pace of life, easy access to nature, and more affordable housing," said Compare the Market AU General Manager Steven Zeller.

The compilers of the ranking note that small towns are generally more affordable simply because there is less demand from people moving there. Thus, everyday goods such as groceries and restaurants, as well as real estate, become more accessible.
