The population of Cyprus has been recognized as the youngest in Europe

Cyprus has the youngest population among all European Union member states. The average Cypriot is 6 years younger than the average European.

According to data published by the statistical institute of the European Union - Eurostat, the average age of the population of Cyprus is 38.4 years. This is six years less than the average age in the EU, which is 44.5 years. Italians are considered the oldest population in the EU, with an average age of 48.4 years, which is 10 years older than that of Cypriots.

It is noted that over the past decade, the average age in Cyprus has increased by 2.2 years. The average age in the EU for the same period increased by 2.3 years. Over the past 10 years, the average age has increased in all EU member states, except for Malta, Sweden, and Germany.

In Malta and Sweden, this indicator has decreased, while in Germany, it remained the same.

Additionally, according to Eurostat data, the share of working-age people aged 15 to 64 in Cyprus is the third largest among all EU countries. 24.7% of the population of Cyprus is of working age.

The highest share of working-age people in the population among all EU member states is recorded in Portugal – 38%.
