Next year, half a million euros will be dedicated to upgrading the beaches of Cyprus. This announcement was made by Tourism Minister Kostas Kumis during the launch ceremony of an initiative aimed at cleaning 56 beaches across the island.

Minister Kumis highlighted that the upgrades will encompass various aspects of organized swimming areas, including their infrastructure.

“Beaches are undoubtedly one of our country’s greatest assets, and we must protect them as a valuable resource,” stated Kumis.

The initiative, titled "Tourism Cares: Let’s Unite for a Cleaner Cyprus," is part of the "Let's Keep Our Sand and Sea Plastic-Free" program, implemented in collaboration with the tour operator TUI and its affiliated charity, TUI Care Foundation.

On the day the program was launched, Kostas Kumis, along with local mayor Giorgos Nicoletto, visited Konnos Beach in Protaras, one of the 56 beaches slated for cleanup.

The minister emphasized that the initiative aims to mobilize the hotel and tourism industry throughout Cyprus to take action against beach pollution.
