Cyprus has introduced an online air pollution map. Created by enthusiasts using Polkadot sensors, the independent and publicly accessible Air Quality Measurement Network in Cyprus (sensors.cy) provides real-time data on air pollution.

The map features user-friendly charts and tables detailing air quality. According to local media, the creators of the project aimed to counter concerns about air pollution on the island. Additionally, the project allows users to identify environmentally friendly locations for living and recreation in Cyprus.

It’s important to note that both parts of Cyprus experience dust storms periodically throughout the year, largely due to the island’s geographic location. A dust storm warning was issued today for the northern part of the island.

The map’s creators estimate that such storms occur approximately 10 days each year. They promise that detailed statistics on the duration of dust surges at various sensors will be available by the New Year.

Previously, it was reported that, according to annual reports from the European Environment Agency, over 800 people in Cyprus die prematurely each year due to air pollution. This data underscores the serious concerns about the impact of poor air quality on public health.
