Over the past weekend, a protest took place in Cyprus against the British military bases. Around 500 participants in the demonstration demanded the immediate dismantling of the Akrotiri and Dhekelia bases, which they consider a "remnant of colonial rule" and believe "compromise the independence, territorial integrity, and sovereignty of Cyprus."

According to local media, the protest organized by the Cyprus Peace Council took place on January 14 at the British military base in Akrotiri. Participants held banners with slogans such as "You have blood on your hands" and "Stop funding genocide," chanting calls to remove British military bases from Cyprus.

"The United States and the United Kingdom have turned Cyprus into an aggressive launching pad against the peoples of the region. We, the Cypriots, do not want our country to be involved in the bloody massacre in the Gaza sector. American-British airstrikes launched from the Akrotiri base against Yemen pose a risk of escalating the situation in the Middle East," stated the Cyprus Peace Council.

It is worth noting that Britain has used its Akrotiri base in Cyprus for bombing operations in Yemen. On Friday morning, Royal Air Force Typhoon aircraft conducted precision airstrikes on two Houthi military targets in Yemen.
