Two serious motorcycle accidents have occurred in Cyprus, leaving two young men with severe injuries.

According to the police press office, the first accident took place yesterday around 6:00 PM in Paphos. On Makariou Avenue in Chloraka, a car driven by a 42-year-old man collided with a motorcycle ridden by a 25-year-old man.

The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries from the collision and was taken to Paphos General Hospital. Doctors diagnosed him with jaw and right leg fractures, along with intra-abdominal bleeding due to a pneumothorax.

After the accident, the 42-year-old driver attempted to flee the scene but was stopped by a nearby citizen.

When police officers arrived, they detained the driver and administered a breathalyzer test, which came back positive: the man was intoxicated at the time of the accident.

The driver was arrested under a warrant and taken into custody for further investigation.

The second accident occurred early this morning around 1:30 AM in the Famagusta district. A 21-year-old motorcyclist, traveling on Makariou Street in Ayia Napa, lost control and overturned.

The biker suffered serious injuries and was initially taken by ambulance to Famagusta General Hospital. On-duty doctors diagnosed him with a lung contusion, liver bleeding, and a spinal cord injury. Due to the severity of his condition, he was transferred to Nicosia General Hospital.

The police are investigating the causes of both accidents.
