In Cyprus, a prison guard has been arrested for drug possession. This is the second case in the last 1.5 months where a supervisor attempted to smuggle drugs to inmates.

A 58-year-old sergeant, the chief prison guard, was caught red-handed with drugs on his way to work. The police stopped the vehicle driven by the suspect for inspection.

During the search of the car, a large quantity of drugs and alcoholic beverages were found. In total, the prison supervisor had 10 A4-sized stickers soaked in synthetic cannabinoids.

Subsequent checks at the detainee's home revealed another batch of drugs. The prison guard has been suspended from duty.

Recall that on November 13, members of YKAN caught a 45-year-old prison guard with a folder containing nine A4 stickers soaked in synthetic cannabinoids. During the investigation, it was revealed that the drugs were intended for a specific inmate serving a lengthy sentence.

The Narcotics Control Department suspects that behind these two supervisors, there is an organized group involved in delivering drugs to the penitentiary facility.

It is known that both detainees used the same method to avoid detection of drugs when entering the prison.

Currently, the police are taking statements from colleagues of the 58-year-old man, as well as from the inmates.
