Authorities in Cyprus have detected dangerous chicken eggs on the market, and the product is now being withdrawn from sale.

The State Veterinary Service announced the recall of "Class A" eggs from K. Th. Nikolaou Ltd after discovering chlorate levels exceeding the legal limits.

The regulatory authority has instructed the company to immediately remove and recall all eggs with an expiration date of October 1.

Consumers who have already purchased these eggs are advised not to consume them and to return them to the store where they were bought.

Tests revealed that chlorate levels surpassed the maximum allowable limits under European Union regulations.

Chlorate consumption can lead to various health issues, including gastritis, nephritis, hemolysis, methemoglobinemia, hemoglobinuria, and acute kidney failure. This is because chlorates reduce the blood’s ability to absorb oxygen.
