In Cyprus, postal service employees are on strike

Approximately 300 postal service employees, members of the Isotita union, have gone on strike. The protest will continue until Friday.

According to the Cyprus News Agency, the dissatisfaction of the postal workers' union is related to the increase in overtime hours that has been affecting postal workers for many years. The announcement of the strike occurred during a protest action on Monday at the entrance to Nicosia, near the Kalispera traffic lights.

According to the president of the Isotita postal delivery department, the gradual increase in overtime hours has led to "professional helplessness and job instability among postal workers."

He also added that union members collectively agreed to refrain from overtime work starting from January.

It is noted that the union informed the Cyprus Postal Services General Directorate about the ongoing issues in June 2023 in writing and then again in November 2023, seeking a meeting to resolve the disagreements. However, there was no response.

"For six months, no one has contacted us, so we have decided to refrain from overtime work starting from January 1. There are many serious problems in the industry. We gave the management the opportunity to contact us, but they did not do so," stated the union leader.
