Paphos Mayor Phedonas Phedonos, accompanied by the Rector of the Cyprus University of Technology and Chairman of the TEPAK Board of Directors, Costas Galatariotis, visited the newly constructed student dormitory last night. The visit included a tour of the facilities, followed by dinner and an overnight stay.

The purpose of the visit was to conduct an on-site assessment of the accommodation, which will soon house students from the city’s academic institutions.

Along with the mayor and the rector, representatives from the student unions of TEPAK, the American University of Beirut (AUB), and Neapolis University participated in the inspection of the dormitory.

During the tour, Mayor Phedonos reminded everyone that the building’s foundation was laid on October 27, 2023. Just 11 months later, the 203-room dormitory is complete and ready to welcome the first group of students.

Final checks will be conducted today, and by 10:00 AM tomorrow, 140 TEPAK students who have already reserved rooms, along with 15 AUB students and three from Neapolis, will move into the dormitory.

Additionally, there have been three inquiries from students of the University of Nicosia, who are attending courses at the University of Paphos.

The mayor also highlighted that the dormitory's construction was funded by the Paphos Municipality's reserves and a loan from the European Investment Bank. This loan will also support an additional project directly across the street from the dormitory.

The future residents will benefit from 32 plots of developed land, which will include parking areas, parks, and sports facilities.

Mayor Phedonos also mentioned that the cost of living in the dormitory will be approximately 350 euros per month—270 euros for rent and 80 euros to cover utilities such as electricity, internet, and cleaning of common areas. The rental income will be used over the next 17 years to repay the loan for the dormitory's construction.

Following the tour, the group was served a meal of chicken with spaghetti and anari cheese before retiring for the night.
