Large-scale cyber espionage campaign affected dozens of countries, including Cyprus
Cybersecurity company Palo Alto Networks has uncovered a large-scale cyber espionage campaign targeting at least 70 organizations in 37 countries worldwide, including Cyprus.
According to experts, over the past year an Asia-based cyber espionage group has gained unauthorized access to the information systems of government bodies and critical infrastructure facilities in various countries. These were systematic and targeted attacks that have caused serious concern within the international information security community.
Palo Alto Networks emphasized that they are not officially attributing the attackers’ activity to any specific state at this stage; however, technical and behavioral indicators suggest a possible link between the attacks and China.
Experts warn that such operations pose a serious threat to national security, data protection, and the stable operation of key government and infrastructure systems.
