Electricity Theft in Paphos Causes Factory Fire: Three Cars and a Motorcycle Destroyed

A major fire broke out at an abandoned factory in the industrial area of Paphos, destroying three cars and a motorcycle. The blaze was triggered by a short circuit resulting from electricity theft.

According to the police press office, emergency services were alerted to the fire on Sunday at around 4:40 PM. The vehicles were burning at the abandoned factory located across from Democracy Avenue.

Police and fire service personnel arrived at the scene. The fire severely damaged three cars and a motorcycle that were being repaired in the building.

At the scene, authorities found a 30-year-old mechanic who was attempting to extinguish the fire. He sustained several burns in the process.

The injured man was taken to the emergency department of Paphos General Hospital, where he received first aid and was later discharged.

Further investigations by the police and fire service revealed that the fire was caused by a short circuit. The 30-year-old man found at the scene is suspected of illegally siphoning electricity from an EAC pole.

The suspect has been arrested and charged with theft of electricity, reckless and negligent behavior, illegal entry into the building, and failure to fulfill his duties. He has been released on bail pending his court appearance.
