Cold Snap Expected: Local Showers and Thunderstorms in Cyprus on February 17
According to the Meteorology Department of the Republic of Cyprus, a moderate high-pressure system is currently affecting the region. However, a cold air mass is expected to reach the island on Thursday, bringing a noticeable drop in temperatures.
This morning, the weather will be mostly clear, though occasional cloud cover may appear. Later in the day, skies will turn mostly cloudy at times, with local showers and isolated thunderstorms developing—initially in the southwest and gradually spreading to other areas.
Temperatures today are expected to rise to around 18°C inland and along the coast, while mountainous areas will see highs of around 7°C. By tonight, skies will be partly cloudy, with the possibility of isolated showers or even a thunderstorm. However, conditions are expected to clear up as the night progresses.
Overnight, temperatures will drop to 4°C inland, 9°C along the coast, and 1°C in the mountains, where frost may form in some areas. As of this report, snow depth was measured at 2 cm in the Troodos area and 10 cm in Chionistra.
On Tuesday, mostly cloudy skies will persist, with occasional showers or isolated thunderstorms possible. Temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday will remain relatively stable, but from Thursday onward, a significant drop is expected.
