Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot Parties Call for Joint Action Amid Foot-and-Mouth Disease Outbreak
Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot political parties have called for joint action following an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease on the island.
The statement was issued by participants of the bicommunal political party forum, held under the auspices of the UN. The declaration emphasizes the need for coordination between the two sides to prevent the further spread of the disease.
Party representatives noted that animal diseases do not recognize political borders, thus effective management requires cooperation between the veterinary services and relevant authorities of both sides of the island.
Participants also urged for information exchange and strengthened preventive measures to protect agriculture and livestock farming.
According to them, joint actions will help mitigate risks for farmers, animals, and food security on the island.
