Lawyer found guilty for advertising real estate purchases in Northern Cyprus
The Disciplinary Board of the Cyprus Bar Association has found a lawyer guilty of violating professional ethics. The case involved advertisements on his company's website for services related to the purchase of and investment in real estate, including properties in the occupied territories of the island.
According to the board's decision, in 2023–2024, the lawyer offered legal services to foreign clients via his company's website, even though the company itself was not registered in the Bar Association's registry.
Furthermore, the website stated that the services covered real estate purchases across the "whole island," including areas not under the control of the Republic of Cyprus.
The lawyer claimed that the information was purely informative and intended to warn foreign buyers about potential risks. However, the disciplinary board found these explanations unconvincing, noting that the wording on the website created the impression of a direct offer of services.
As a result, the board found the lawyer's conduct incompatible with the profession. A decision on the disciplinary measure is now awaited.
