In İskele, a monument will be erected to the "missing bus" with 11 Cypriot Turks who were killed by Greeks in 1964.

According to the municipality's press service, the monument commemorating the tragic events will be built in the İskele - Karpaz highway area, in the village of Bahçeler, on Dr. Serdar Saydam Street.

The foundation laying for the future memorial complex will take place on Wednesday, December 27.

The construction of the monument is planned to be completed on the anniversary of the mass murder - May 13, 2024. The bus with 11 Cypriot Turks set out on May 13, 1964, and disappeared. The people in it were abducted and killed by Greeks.

The monument project, developed by the İskele Municipality's zoning department, will be built at the municipality's own expense and with the efforts of its employees. The monument will consist of a statue of the "missing bus" and columns representing the 11 Cypriot Turkish martyrs. At the bottom, there will be a memorial plaque with details about the deceased.

The monument will be complemented by a display case showcasing the personal belongings of the martyrs.
