TRNC spent only a third of the allocated funds for defense

Under the Agreement on Economic and Financial Cooperation between Turkey and TRNC, 77.7 million Turkish lira was allocated for projects in the defense and security sector of the country in 2023. Of this amount, only 26.4 million lira has been spent.

According to a statement from the Development and Economic Cooperation Office of the Turkish Embassy in Nicosia, 38 million Turkish lira was allocated for the project to strengthen the organization of the TRNC Police General Directorate, of which 19.4 million Turkish lira has been actually spent.

Including 7.8 million Turkish lira spent on the purchase of new vehicles for the Police General Directorate. With this money, seven vans, two SUVs, one jeep, and a sedan were purchased.

Additionally, 3.1 million Turkish lira was spent on the repair and maintenance of existing service vehicles, and 2.8 million on the official uniforms for the personnel of the Police General Directorate, police officers, and the Fire Department General Directorate.

2.1 million Turkish lira was spent on the landscaping, furnishing, and equipment of the Gyönyeli police station, and 1.3 million Turkish lira was allocated for the project of integrating emergency response lines 155, 199, and 156.

  • A total of 1.5 million Turkish lira was actually paid for the repair, maintenance, and renovation of buildings, residential houses, police stations, and police headquarters. 1 million Turkish lira was allocated for the maintenance and repair of technical equipment inside PGM, of which 782 thousand Turkish lira has been spent from this amount, - the statement said.

In addition, 6 million Turkish lira was allocated for the project to supply central heating and cooling systems to the Police General Directorate. 5.3 million Turkish lira has been spent from this amount.
