Court in TRNC Sends Three Illegal Immigrants Without Residency Permits to Jail
Three illegal immigrants who had been living in Northern Cyprus without residency permits faced the court recently. One of them had managed to evade authorities for nine years.
The defendants—Ahsan Ulla, Muhammad Usman, and Fakiko Diakite—were arrested for lacking residency permits. During the court proceedings, it was revealed that all three suspects were detained on September 21, 2024, while police were patrolling in Demirhan.
Their behavior raised suspicions among the police officers. An immigration check showed that Muhammad Usman had lived in the TRNC without a residency permit for 3,476 days—since March 17, 2015. Ahsan Ulla had been in the country illegally for 175 days—since March 3, 2024. The third suspect had lived in Northern Cyprus without a residency permit for 1,031 days—since November 30, 2021.
The police stated that the investigation was complete and requested the arrest of all three suspects. The judge ruled to send them to jail for a term not exceeding 20 days.
