The Norwegian Embassy in Cyprus is organizing a special event in downtown Nicosia. The city walk will commemorate the 20th anniversary of cooperation between the two countries.

According to reports, flagship projects funded by the Norwegian government through the European Economic Area (EEA) and Norway Grants will be showcased as part of the event.

“This year marks an important milestone in the partnership between Norway and Cyprus. For 20 years, our countries have been part of the EEA – the world's largest free trade market. During the same period, Norway and Cyprus have collaborated under the financial support from the EEA and Norway Grants,” stated the press release.

The Norwegian Embassy announced that the tour will include visits to the “Solidarity of Nicosia in Action” exhibition (Chrysaliniiotissis, 30-32), Nicosia City Hall, which is currently hosting a photo project on the “20 Years to the Cyprus PRIO Center” (Arsinois 52), and the Cyprus Museum (Mouseiou 1).

The highlight of the event will be at the House of Cooperation (Markou Drakou, 28) in the buffer zone. An evening party featuring performances by the cross-community groups Island Seeds and Zildji & Hiktune Project will take place here.

Norwegian Ambassador to Cyprus, Laila Yakheln, expressed pride in the consistent cooperation flourishing between Norway and Cyprus and thanked everyone contributing to the development of inter-communal exchanges on the island.

“We proudly mark this anniversary, continuing to work together towards creating a green, competitive, and inclusive Europe,” stated the diplomat.

The EEA and Norway Grants include contributions from Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway to promote European integration and cooperation. The grants pursue a dual objective: to promote social and economic equality in Europe and strengthen relations between donor countries and the 15 beneficiary states. Norway contributes over 97 percent of the funding. Cyprus has been receiving financial support since 2004, amounting to €24 million.

The anniversary walk will commence at the Center of Visual Arts and Research (CVAR) on Saturday, May 18, at 4:30 PM.
