The "Vessel Traffic Service System" (GTHS), which will be installed in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, has been included in the investment program of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey.

According to Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, GTHS will be established to protect the interests of the Turkish Republic in Northern Cyprus and to monitor maritime traffic between the TRNC and Turkey.

In his statement, the minister also emphasized that the creation of the "Vessel Traffic Service System" in Northern Cyprus will enhance Turkey's efficiency in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The "Vessel Traffic Service System" will involve ship identification, continuous monitoring and regulation of vessel traffic, transmission of navigation information, and general warnings to ships.

GTHS's responsibilities will also include managing special zones, preventing smuggling, identifying accident risks, informing stakeholders in emergencies such as accidents and fires, supporting oil pollution control, and exchanging meteorological data with ships as needed.

It is noted that the contract for the establishment of GTHS in the TRNC will be signed with the company HAVELSAN. The system will consist of a center in Famagusta and three movement observation stations (Karpaz, Sadrazamköy, and Zeytinlik Lighthouse).

The tender project for the creation of the "Vessel Traffic Service System" in Northern Cyprus has already been completed. The system is planned to be launched within two years.
