Flag of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Raised at the Europa League Match "Galatasaray" vs. PAOK
In their opening match of the UEFA Europa League, Turkish football club Galatasaray faced off against the Greek team PAOK. Fans of Galatasaray proudly displayed the flag of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in the stands.
The TRNC flag was captured on camera in the tunnel where the Greek players entered the field.
The match concluded with Galatasaray winning 3-1, with all goals scored in the second half. In the 48th minute, PAOK defender Baba Rahman accidentally scored an own goal, putting Galatasaray ahead. Following this, the TRNC flag was once again waved behind the Greek club's goal.
In the 67th minute, Greek midfielder Ioannis Konstantelias equalized the score. Just eight minutes later, Yunus Akgün restored the lead for the Turks. The decisive goal was scored by Mauro Icardi of the yellow-reds during the fifth minute of stoppage time.
