The Famagusta Municipality has decided to get rid of an unpleasant odor

The Municipality of Famagusta has initiated works on the pump stations located at the connection points of sewage lines. This is an attempt by the authorities to address the issue of an unpleasant odor affecting certain areas of the city.

The project is being carried out by a municipal brigade due to the increasing population of the city and the loss of operational capacity of pumps that have been in use since 2012.

The capacity of 13.5 kW pumps located at the pump stations at the connection points of sewage networks will be increased to 18.5 kW as part of the project. Within the project, three pumps at Pumping Station No. 3, located on Ismet Inonu Boulevard at the intersection of the Eastern Mediterranean University, have already been replaced.

Further plans include the replacement of equipment at two more pump stations.

It is emphasized that the main goal of the project is to eliminate the unpleasant odor in Famagusta by replacing faulty pumps and redirecting ventilation. The cost of upgrading the equipment is estimated at 30-35 thousand euros for pumps to be replaced at each station.

According to the repair team, many items adhered to the pumps removed for replacement, including wet wipes, condoms, toilet paper, diapers, and other personal hygiene items. All of this led to the damage of the pumps.

Once again, residents are urged not to dispose of household waste in the sewerage system and to use garbage bins for these purposes.
