Kyrenia's Mayor, Murat Şenkul, has announced that the long-standing issue of waste accumulation in the city's industrial zone is finally being addressed. The municipal authorities are committed to relocating all waste dumps outside the region.

The mayor made this announcement via his social media platform:

  • "In the first phase, we will clean up the waste at the industrial zone's waste station. Next, we will upgrade the transfer station, which had construction deficiencies. Once we find a suitable location, we will move the transfer station out of this area," he explained.

Mayor Şenkul also reminded residents of past summers when they frequently complained about the unbearable foul odor from the dump.

  • "We believe our local residents have noticed positive changes in the region recently. By putting the transfer station into operation as soon as possible, we will largely resolve this issue.

Our ultimate goal is to completely eliminate all waste processes from this region," stated Murat Şenkul.

Concluding his post, the mayor mentioned that addressing most of the city's problems impacting residents' quality of life will take 6.5 years. These issues include waste management, the construction of the eastern ring road, abandoned buildings, and improvements to the city's water supply network.
