A Cypriot Greek man has been arrested in Northern Cyprus on suspicion of stealing camper trailers. The suspect, Georgios Stavros, has already appeared before the District Court in Nicosia.

During the court hearing, it was revealed that the incident occurred on August 6th at around 5:40 AM. According to the investigation, the suspect allegedly stole a white caravan belonging to a Famagusta resident. The caravan had been parked in an empty lot on a boulevard in the Gönyeli-Yenikent municipality.

Preliminary reports indicate that the accused attached the caravan to the tow hitch of his vehicle and drove off with it. The camper was later found in the Akıncılar area.

Further investigation revealed that this was not the defendant's first offense. On April 13th, around 6:00 AM, the Cypriot Greek is believed to have stolen another caravan, valued at £9,000, using a similar method from a car dealership on Dr. Fazıl Küçük Boulevard.

The suspect was identified and arrested on August 8th in Nicosia. The police also discovered that he had illegally entered the country. On August 9th, 2024, he appeared before a military court for trespassing on restricted military territory and was issued an additional three-day arrest warrant.

During this period, the police reviewed numerous CCTV recordings and gathered witness testimonies. It was noted that there have been several similar thefts in the area recently. The police are investigating whether the suspect is connected to other similar crimes.

The judge ordered that the suspect be detained for an additional three days to allow for further investigation.
