The Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority (KIB-TEK) has denied reports of an upcoming increase in electricity tariffs in Northern Cyprus.

According to a statement released on social media, KIB-TEK clarified that there are no plans to raise tariffs in the near future.

"The reports suggesting an increase in electricity tariffs do not reflect the actual situation," stated the company.

Earlier, the president of the Cyprus and Turkey Electricity Workers' Union (El-Sen) announced on Kibrıs Postası TV that KIB-TEK planned to raise electricity prices in Northern Cyprus by 13%.

It was reported that the required 26% tariff increase by KIB-TEK would be implemented in two stages.

Recall that the initial 13% increase took effect from June 1.

According to Ahmet Tuğcu, splitting the tariff increase into two phases was aimed "to mitigate its impact on the cost of living and reduce the rise in minimum wage."
