Last weekend, Northern Cyprus was hit by heavy rainfall. The abundant precipitation particularly affected two districts. Today, rain and thunderstorms are forecasted again in the TRNC — whom to contact in case the weather becomes uncontrollable.

Heavy rains last Sunday inundated the areas of Famagusta and Iskele.

The municipal teams of Famagusta are working to mitigate the negative consequences caused by the heavy rain. Precipitation has resulted in drainage problems in some parts of the city.

In addition to efforts to clear rainwater accumulated on roads, teams are also assisting local residents facing difficulties. Emergency services promptly responded to reports from citizens affected by the heavy rains.

According to the Mayor of Famagusta, Suleyman Ulucay, municipal teams worked on Ismet Inonu Boulevard, at the Gyulseren intersection, Anafartalar Street, and in the vicinity of the Sema hotel complex, which were particularly affected by the heavy rain. If the precipitation persists, the teams will be reinforced.

The inclement weather also led to disruptions in water supply from Geçitkale. The delay was due to homes that did not receive water in the reservoirs being located in elevated areas.

A similar situation was observed on Sunday in Iskele. The municipality warned local residents about the heavy rains that affected the region and caused negative situations throughout the city.

Moreover, due to heavy rain in the Iskele and Karpas regions, visibility on the roads deteriorated. Drivers were advised to proceed slowly and cautiously.
